The Scottish Radio Car Association (SRCA) was formed on 9th January, 2005 at a special Annual General Meeting which took place at Tay Racers in Balbeggie, just outside Perth.  There were approximately 20 interested people in attendance that voted the office bearers into their positions and agreed of the name of the new Association.

Derek Kerr was voted on as Chairman, John Reid as Secretary and Alex Lindsay as Treasurer.

Membership to the SRCA would be included within race fees, unless you wished to join as a non racing member.  It was agreed that BRCA membership would be mandatory for racers and also for non racers who wished to be heard at the AGM.   So if any Dads wish to have their say, they now can so long as they are BRCA members, and of course their kids race in the series.

The idea behind the Association is to promote Model Car Racing in Scotland (at this time primarily 1/10th Electric Touring Cars), and provide its members, you the racers, with comprehensive information about the sport.  Although initially only tenth scale touring cars would be catered for, it was thought at the meeting that other formulae like twelfth scale and buggy racing may well be looked at in the coming months.

Already there is an additional class to last year within the Touring Car section.  The three classes are:  27 Turn Stock, 19 Turn Spec Class, and the no holds barred "Open Class", allowing any wind of motor you wish.

In order to promote the 2005 Scottish Radio Car Association outdoor championship, club representatives will be opted onto the committee, to bring forward any queries or suggestions that may arise at club level.  Only clubs who have opted to hold a round of the 2005 series will have any voting rights on matters relating to running of the said series. Clubs that do not hold a round in the Championship can still have a club rep, but they do not have any voting rights.

The issue of Race Programme and booking in to meetings was also discussed.  Different race programmes were discussed and it is believed that bbkRC is by far the most popular in Scotland and in the committees mind, the most flexible.  A decision was therefore made to use that programme.  In order to help out the rounds which did not have there relevant programme of their own, that club would be given the loan of a PC for the day preloaded with their meeting competitors and operating instructions.  However it should be noted that the programme is capable of running the meeting successfully with a minimum of human intervention.

To go on, you will see elsewhere that generic Entry Forms are located on the website.  On the Entry Form you will find a note of the all the dates for the 2005 Series and boxes to tick to indicate which rounds and classes you wish to enter, a discount being available for "ordering" more that five rounds.  Once completed, and if required, competitors have a similar entry record to fill in and retain for their records.  The entry form and payments will be sent to a central location where the various entries will be directed to the relevant rounds, thus on the week preceding the event, the organising club will receive by e-mail, their entry for that meeting.  The only thing that clubs will have to do on the day is to take "on the day entries".

We think that the inception of the new association will be great for our sport and help to consolidate what has been in previous years, a good series.

Hope to see you all at a race meeting somewhere soon…
